A Giveaway!

Hello there everyone!

Yesterday was my birthday and it was a public holiday here in SA too. Double Fun!
Thanks for all the wonderful wishes - I had a wonderful and peaceful day.

So, because I can't show anyone what Im busy with at the moment, Im going to be doing a Giveaway because they're fun too.

This is the Geometric Connect block

Pattern measures 14" (36cm) blocks
Easy Intermediate level

I wanted to make just one block for a mugrug for my desk.

I printed out a piece of Charley Harper fabric with my printer.... I have a Inkjet printer and after a whole rig-ma-roll of cutting a piece of fabric the size of a page, ironing it to freezer paper and then slowly feeding it through the printer, I got one page of the black and white print. It took about 4 tries because the inside of the printer was dirty and kept making ink smears on the fabric. Afterwards I did a happy dance and then ironed it to set it.
I had to make dark corners because there was no more....
Its okay for a mugrug tho'....

You can make these blocks into groups of 4 or even more and have a stunning trellis pattern in next to no time at all. With the 4x4 blocks the quilt will be around 56" without the border.

You can download the FREE pattern here.........

Have a great day!

What's on your desk today?

Hello to everyone!

I'm still getting such lovely messages from you all, so a BIG thank you.

I'm feeling fine with days that are up and others that are just all over the place.
I have found out that a memorial service for my brother will be held only this coming Saturday.

I wanted to make something a little different, so this Panda geometric pattern was just asking to be made into a HUGE size - something like a great lap quilt for in front of the TV.

This pattern measures 36x40" (92x129cm) and is on the Easy Intermediate level.

I've also added the pattern to my Craftsy Shop.

Maybe I'll even do the bear in something with totally different pattern colours.... We'll see...

Landscape QAL - Row #2

Hello to everyone!

Thank you so very much for all your support and well wishes.
I appreciate it very much!!

Today we start on the second row of the Landscapes Quilt A Long.

Each of these rows will be done over a time period of around 1,5 months or around 6 to 7 weeks.

Its really not hard and with the slow and steady pace, we'll get it all done this year and have an amazing quilt too.

The row measures 12x40" (31x129cm) and is on the Intermediate level.

Our new row shows a Desert Landscape with Bedouin style tent and Palm trees.

I hope you'll all enjoy sewing along with me on this one.

Tis Monday...

This past week-end we've had our share of roller coaster rides...

My brother (46) passed away on Friday.
I didn't even know he was in hospital. He died of complications with pneumonia.
His wife let me know via SMS....... wtf!
and this morning when I asked about the funeral arrangements
I heard she was now in hospital....

Its only the level of sh***  that changes....

I did manage to get some sewing done. Loads of time to just sit and think.

My Landscape #1 is done!! and I didn't screw up the directional cloud fabrics.....Yaay me!

and this is the Landscape row that Joan Wintersgill of Texas finished up.... Lookin' Good!! Thanks for sharing the photo with me.

Our next row - Landscape #2 - Desert - will be available on Wednesday.

Friday! and Landscape QAL progress...

Today I at least have some progress on my Landscape Row to show you...

As usual I started with laying all the pieces I would need in order and making the markings where I needed the directional fabrics.

After I joined the sections of pattern together with tape, I sewed my block.

This is the third block of the row. Went together really quickly.

Sewed the three blocks together and there you go...

One more and I'll be done - and on time too... Yaaay!

Next week we have the second Row available

I also set up the next and last block on my desk, ready to do the sewing....
Hopefully on the weekend, I'll find some time.

I hope you're all still enjoying the Quilt A Long...

I'm going to add a link up again, so if you like, add your progress to the line up.

Today will be Bitty Block day, because I had to go to Johannesburg City on Monday. What a dump!!
The only good thing about the whole day was that I got to go back home again....

Anyhooo,  lets get on with something fun!
The March bitty block is to celebrate 'St Pat's Day'. Not that I'm Irish or anything, its just some fun.

The St Pat's Hat block measures 5" (12cm) and on the Intermediate Level
Hope you enjoy sewing this little 'piece of gold'!

Friday Fun Day

After waiting all morning for the technician to connect our new fiber installation, I decided to start chopping up my pieces of fabric that arrived in the post.
It came from Spoonflower......

I designed my own fabric and had it sent on over....
Its the stawberries and the small leaves prints.

Since the beginning of January I have been learning Adobe Illustrator and making surface patterns with repeats. Loads of fun, but also loads of work for an old broad like me.

Here are others that I designed but I still need to upload them all and then have a swatch sent to me before I can put them up for sale.

Now its your turn. What's been keeping you busy?
Lets have a look!! Link up a photo or two and be sure to visit and leave a comment. Thanks.

Landscape QAL news

Hi there

Its Landscape QAL time....

I've slowly progressed about a half a block.....
it happens.....

The new Landscape #2 will be available on 16 March. I have until then to complete this row......

Now, I need to show this information to you as well.....a lot of questions were coming up on the fabrics.

This is actually the BOM Baby bear's fabric info, but it will work for all patterns too.

This is the fabric info you get in your pattern.
It will show a colour block with a number (#2)

The large design and colour guide will clearly show its the background. I have it as sky, but you're welcome to change that to whatever you like.

Look at #6. It shows the colour (medium darkish brown). It gives its colour number - the same as on the colour guide. Then it gives how many times it found that colour used in the pattern (useless info) and then it says Fabric 4in. - this is how much fabric you need. The software works this out in a strip of fabric that was 43" (about 130cm) wide. Even if you only needed the one small scrap of that colour it would still tell you it needs a strip.

For the Bear, I think colour #5 and colour #8 are exactly the same. The software detects a millimeter of difference and it makes it a new colour. Still, its up to you to choose whichever colour fabric you like.

You can always cut a small 1" (2cm) scrap and stick it to that colour block to make yourself a 'key' for referencing when sewing.
